Why, hello there! I apologize if it seems a bit as though I have dropped off the face of the earth. Admittedly, I kind of did, for reasons that I will explain below. The good news is that my workout schedule has stayed on track with not a single run missed!
I won’t go through all of the details of all my runs, because no one wants to read about two weeks’ worth of workouts and quite frankly, I don’t want to write about them. But, here’s a summary:
- 8 runs totaling 53 miles, including one cutback week. Shortest was 4 miles, longest was 14 miles. Fastest long run pace: 10:13. Fastest short run pace: 9:35
- 3 strength workouts. Got to squat with a modified bar (resting more on my shoulders than on my spine) for the first time ever! I was surprised how different the bar is and how destabilizing it can be.
- 1 hike: One short hike this weekend while AJ and I visited with friends in North Carolina.
Part of the reason that I have been very silent on the blog lately is the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I am from Parkland and I graduated from Douglas. Like all of my fellow alumni, I have been absolutely devastated by the shooting and it has truly taken the wind out of my sails.
I am inspired and proud of the actions of the students over the past two weeks, but I cannot say I am surprised. Douglas demands a culture of excellence and the fact that these kids are moving mountains in the name of school safety in such a short time just makes sense to me. I haven’t written a blog post about it because, quite frankly, I can’t. I am part of the massive behind-the-scenes alumni movement to support the current students, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.
Secondly, I often joke that my job is either 40 hours a week or 80, with pretty much no in between. Lately, it has been the latter. When I have deadlines, everything hits the fan…and of course, I had a massive deadline the week of the shooting. Let’s just say concentrating wasn’t exactly easy. Lately, it feels like I’m trying to just keep my head above water, and sometimes that’s just how life is. It will all even out sooner or later!
Oh, and for those asking – no, I still have not picked out a race yet! I thought I had, but now I am not so sure. Either way, it will be the weekend of April 28-29!
