    PIRATE RUN!!!

  2. Dan

This is one amazing schedule. Just looking at it, I’m jealous that I’m not running all of those. I will definitely be following your progress as you tackle these (and taking down notes on future races while I’m at it)! Best of luck with this huge challenge :)

Which ones are you driving to and which ones are you flying to? I’m in Valdosta GA and thought about driving to DE. I lived there 8 + years and love it. To bad it’s sold out. I’m thinking about joining your Sept weekend. I need both states. I would love to terrorize them w you. I’ll already be in Ohio for two other marathons.

    1. I generally drive to the ones that are 8 hours away or less. I would list out all of the ones that I am driving to, but I am slightly drunkish right now and cannot think of all my marathons. I know there will be a lot of Maniacs an 50 Staters at the NH/ME double so you’d have plenty of company!

The Seattle Marathon needs a T-Rex!! November 25th — or, Rock n’ Roll version is on June 23rd. :-)

    1. Hmm…I agree. I will have to put that on my calendar for next year! I have heard great things about the Seattle races. Which one would you recommend?

What, in your opinion, makes a race better or worse? Then I could give you some insight into which is better …. not that I have run a marathon. But, my dad organizes, plans, and holds them (sometimes even as race director!) so I have some good info.

  5. I’m doing the Running for the Bay marathon on the 21st of October also! It will be my first

  6. You’re running Chicago, eh? I’ll see you there!

    1. I feel a meet up coming on…

      1. Wait a minute, I just realized that Chicago will be your 3rd marathon in 8 days?!? (…I don’t really have anything to follow that up with, so I’m going to let my “?!?” punctuation speak for itself)

        1. Meh. Full week off in between, it’s totally fine. Of course, I say that now.

Come to Tulsa for Route 66. We can hold hands across the finish line. Anders can tell you all about us – we hosted him in Febraury for Post Oak.

    1. I am planning to be in Tulsa for Route 66 so that sounds like a plan to me! If you put up with Anders for a few days, then I definitely need to hear those stories :)

Woo hoo. Check out the Center of the Universe detour – it gets you an extra medal. If you need help with anything for that weekend I’m happy to help.

        1. Cool! I just looked it up and I am definitely in for the Center of the Universe thing! Who doesn’t like an extra medal? I will get in touch with you closer to the race and we can figure out a plan for the weekend!

So when are you coming to do a marathon in Washington, huh? You can OBVIOUSLY stay with me and I will OBVIOUSLY be sporting obnoxious signs similar to when Katie ran her DC marathon thing … duh. So seriously, tell me when. Thanks.

    1. I am hoping to head to Washington next year! Tickets there are very expensive thanks to me living in the middle of nowhere, so I will have to plan accordingly. There are sooooo many good Washington marathons that I bet it will be hard to pick – it’s also where the Maniacs club was founded! I typically like smaller races with a lot of “swag” and a local feeling – no Rock n Roll or big commercial races for me. Bonus points if there is a cool theme! I would LOVE to come stay with you, it will be a blast!

I would recommend the Leavenworth Oktoberfest Marathon. It’s in Leavenworth, which is a small Bavarian-like village up in the mountains. They have a big Oktoberfest celebration every year and this marathon falls as part of one of those weekends. It’s supposed to be a really beautiful course, not a major marathon in the area, but super fun and scenic. Here’s the website: http://teddriven.com/events/2012-leavenworth-oktoberfest-marathon

        1. Thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely check it out. I do love a good theme, and Oktoberfest implies beer, so so far, so good!

  9. I see you are doing the NH/ME double – this will be my first double weekend! Is this your first too? Any tips for a double virgin (and yes that does sound kinky).

    1. Ha! I wish I had some tips for you but this will be my first double weekend also. From what I hear, it’s best to plan to just enjoy the second day and run/walk the race. I know a ton of Maniacs and 50 Staters do this double, so there will probably be a ton of us hanging out at the back of the pack if you’d like to join :)

      1. I will definitely accept that invitation :) I am usually a back of the packer anyways and also use the run/walk method so sounds like we will all have some company!

If I don’t have a job by October maybe I can come to Chicago! I’ve always wanted to go and have a place to stay (friends) and I’d get to see you, which these years is never enough.

    1. That would be great! but I do hope you have a job by then :)

  11. Natasha

Are you not doing the Applachiocola marathon anymore?

    1. No, I don’t think so. My friend Amanda is, but I have a wedding to go to that day and I’ve already done the state of Florida a few times :(

  12. Jennifer

    You’re not doing Tacoma City?

    1. Nope…flights are so expensive out there and I have been really wanting to do the Wisconsin/Kalamazoo double.

      1. Jennifer

Ah, that makes sense. I did Kenosha last year, which is where my current PR was run; it’s a nice little race!

Cowtown Marathon – Fort Worth, TX, February 24, 2013

    1. I have heard great things about Cowtown. The only problem is I’ve already done a race in Texas and I’m trying not to repeat the states…

  14. Sandi Kuhl

I’ll be at Vermont City May 27, 2012! And you’d have to wait until 2014 but NJ/Long Branch Marathon is a a good one (flat). If you run Philly or Bucks County (PA) I’d be happy to host you!

    1. I have heard good things about Vermont City, Sandi! I will have to check that one out. I’ve also heard Long Branch is the better of the marathons in NJ so that will be on the list at some point. My boyfriend is from Edison, NJ, but I have no idea where that is in relation to Long Branch (or anything else, for that matter). I’ve heard Philly is great! I’ve already done Pennsylvania but I plan to go back and do Philly after I’m done with the states.

  15. Sandi Kuhl

Oops sorry – missed your stop in PA. If your boyfriend still has friends in Edison to stay with you could easily get to Long Branch. All the best – enjoy your 50 miler! You must like trails (Pennypack, site of HalfSour/HalfKraut) is in my backyard, I would recommend any of The North Face Endurance Challenge series, really well organized and very good value if you register in advance.

  16. Sandi Kuhl

Oops, of course that’s 2013…I blame barbiturates.

  17. Leslie Kelpsch

I will be there at the Wisconsin Marathon, I’m doing the half portion. Be prepared for me to hunt you down for an autograph and picture!

    1. Awesome! I am looking forward to meeting you!

  18. Emily

You should do the Roots ‘n Blues ‘n BBQ marathon in Columbia, MO. It’d be fun!

    1. I do have a friend who lives in Columbia, MO…not a bad idea! I am not sold on a Missouri marathon yet so I will keep that in mind!

  19. Cassie Barton

You know that Elvis is in Kalamazoo…. used to live there in my pre-running days.

  20. Oh MAN. Your 2013 schedule is amazing. I may register for the Vermont Marathon since it’s within driving distance…

The RI/CT double looks like fun, too, but I was planning on registering for Chicago!

Hmmm, still much to plot for 2013!

    1. I will point out that Chicago is the weekend before the double and is therefore not a conflict :) Come to Vermont!! It will be fun!

      1. Jennifer

Danielle, Columbus Day is a week later this year so now Chicago does conflict with the double. :(

        1. Ughhhhhh this is an outrage

    2. I’ll register for Vermont next month when I have more money :)

Bummer about the Chicago/Double conflict. Although, I’m wondering if staying home and doing a double nearby in October is more reasonable than going to Chicago and paying a 150 registration fee! We’ll see!

      1. Chicago is awesome, so I can’t really say anything against it. Obviously I’m going to route for the double so we can hang, but the choice is yours :)

  21. Sandi Kuhl

So far day has gone like this: I lost a glove (of course one from my favorite pair), locked myself out of the house, went to the post office and forgot my wallet (which was of course, in the locked house), burned my finger and realized there was no more beer. But reading that you’ll be at Vermont City made everything all better!

    1. No more beer? That is a tragedy that not even I can overcome. I’m excited to meet you in Vermont!

  22. johnsandwich

Wait, you will be in Missouri and Tulsa? I want to do Tulsa, (of course I want a lot of things), and I can come down to Springfield. Please let me know if both of these are locks for 2013

  23. Don Pemberton

Cool – I’ll get to see you at ET!

  24. Sarah G

I was going to suggest the Philly Marathon but it looks like you’ll be in Tulsa that day. Bummer!

  25. I saw mention of the Leavenworth Oktoberfest Marathon above in Washington State. I did their half this year, and it’s a very scenic course (pretty mountains & a river), but probably 1/2 of their full course is a trail run rather than traditional road race. Important things to know for training :)

  26. Marlin Yoder

Been thinking about doing that CT / RI double myself. Hmmm.

    1. trex

I wish I could this year, but my friends are getting married that weekend! It will have to be next year.

  27. Becky

I would love to meet you when you come BACK to Tulsa for the Rt 66 Marathon. I think there may be quite a few of us that would! I don’t plan to run it this year, but may think about doing the half, but you never know!!

  28. Bobby

Come to Texas (but it’s hot in the summer). Just had the Rock-n-Roll 1/2 and Full. Spring time is a great time for Texas runs. Come when you can.

  29. Bobby

Maybe I should get to training for the Tulsa marathon in November. Anything on Route 66 has to be cool.

    1. trex

It’s very cool and very fun! Check out my race reports page for a recap of the weekend I spent there!

      1. Bobby

Are you running Tulsa this year?

        1. trex

Yes, I will be. That’s why it’s on the list of upcoming races :)

  30. Bobby

Sorry, I was confused between the race reports and the upcoming races. Figured it out when I checked the dates. Have fun.

    1. trex

No problem! Hopefully I’ll see you there this year!

  31. Becky W

Danielle, I would love to meet you when you come to my hometown, Tulsa, for the Rt 66 Marathon! Doubt I will run it, but I will be there to cheer runners on!

    1. trex

That sounds great, Becky! I would love to meet you too! I will be running the mascot dash (in my T-Rex costume from last year, of course) and also speaking at the expo on Saturday, so there will be lots of opportunities to meet up! I’m also running the marathon, obviously. Can’t wait!

  32. Becky W

my friend Denise and I run the “fun” races (not fun runs) as Thing 1 and Thing 2. We might have to dress up and run that one as well.

    1. trex

Ha! That’s awesome. Those are some of my favorite Dr. Seuss characters. You should definitely do it!

  33. Jennifer

Ohhhh I will also be in Tulsa this year, and you better believe I will be at that mascot dash cheering and taking photos. Not sure how you can top last year, but I am sure you will find a way!

    1. trex

YAY!! I’m so excited you are coming! Such a fun race. I need to practice extensively in my costume between now and November…although not sure how I’m going to do that since my costume is still in Tulsa.
