Headed Out West…and South

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog for the past few months, you might wonder how I could possibly inject any more travel or any more insanity into my life. Well, I’m excited to announce that there will be more of both coming up very soon!

I’ve been holding off posting about it (or really telling anyone about it) until I had firm dates, but I will be heading out to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the entire summer on the weekend of May 16th! Natalie, my business partner at Ramblen, lives there, and we have decided that it will likely really help the company if I work out there with her. We don’t have a firm plan in terms of where I will be after the summer is over, but I’m looking forward to getting down to business and making this company grow! It also doesn’t hurt that I am over the moon about spending all summer hanging out with my Tulsa friends. I’m lucky enough to be spending the summer with my dear friend Patty – she and her husband Steve are taking on a daughter for a few months! To add to all the excitement, Lauren (my best friend who came with me to Japan) is roadtripping out to Oklahoma with me to help me with the drive!

So Tulsa people, get ready. A slightly crippled T-Rex is about to be in your midst! I’ll be coming home every few weeks to visit AJ, and he’ll be heading out to Tulsa a few times as well. I’m lucky that he is so supportive of my goals and dedication to Ramblen. He never even flinches anymore when I tell him my crazy ideas! You should feel extremely sorry for him.

Speaking of crazy ideas, AJ and I have been talking about going away for a weekend before I leave. I think he had in mind some place close, like Asheville or Myrtle Beach, but since I’ve been all hopped up on pain meds, I had grander plans. I have a billion frequent flyer miles thanks to all the travel trips I told you about, so I started looking into some tropical getaways for a relaxing beach vacation. I found a great deal on a top-rated hotel and booked two free flights to…

Yup, we are going to Curaçao! Although I’m not much for beach vacations (you can blame it on the blinding paleness of my skin), I’ve always wanted to go to some of the small Caribbean islands that still retain an interesting local culture and aren’t too touristy. Curaçao is a former Dutch colony just off the coast of Venezuela that is known for its beautiful architecture and gorgeous beaches. Thanks to the magic of frequent flyer miles, we’re headed there for about 5 days, including travel time. It will just be a short trip, but I can’t wait to relax in the sun – under a giant hat, obviously – and drink margaritas while spending time with AJ before I leave.

The capital city of Willemstad

AJ is particularly excited about this vacation because the fact that I just had surgery means I literally can’t over-plan the entire thing. I’m not allowed to do much besides lay around and occasionally walk very slowly for about 15 minutes, so I cannot burden him with millions of scheduled activities. I actually find myself really excited about that, too, It’s amazing how much less stressful travel is when all you have to do is show up and lie on the beach! Hmm.

So, that’s the deal. Lots of craziness and excitement happening over here! Fortunately I have plenty of pain meds to allow me to take it all in stride.

  1. So excited that you’re coming to Tulsa! Maybe I’ll have the chance to rub shoulders with you. 🙂 Best of luck as you continue to heal and recover! As always, I’m looking forward to reading about more of your travel adventures!!

  2. Hey…………have you seen the Athlinks photo of a bacon aide station?? YOU are in it………..(I’m quite sure anyways!) Have a great trip and feel better!

  3. You need to hook up with fleet feet to keep up you running and training. It will be awesome to have you join us.

  4. I’m not going to lie. I’m pretty jealous of your life and all the traveling you get to do. I’m glad it works out well though! Have fun this summer.

  5. What really strikes me as most amazing about you is that you just won’t let a hurty body part interfere with your life as you want to live it. That is a mindset of which I need more in my own life.

  6. I used to live in Venezuela and Curacao would be, like, a local ‘weekend trip’. Ditto for Aruba. I feel like maybe I had it good.

Then again, I also used to live in Ponca City, OK, and Tulsa was a pretty exciting place to go for a swim meet. 🙂
